42 years ago, in 1984, the first triathlon event took place in Roth under the name “Franken-Triathlon” with 83 participants. Since then, a lot has happened in the local triathlon sport. And to celebrate this 42-year unprecedented development of “Fascination Triathlon” in a fitting manner, the city of Roth, the Roth District Office, the TSG 08 Roth triathlon department, the BTV and TEAMCHALLENGE have joined forces and planned various highlights.
Depending on how you look at the event’s history, there are two ways to see that:
- As “Challenge Roth”: The first official edition under the “Challenge” brand took place 24 years ago, on July 14, 2002.
- The event’s origins: The very first triathlon held in Roth (originally called the Frankentriathlon) took place 42 years ago, in 1984, before transitioning into Ironman Europe and later rebranding to Challenge Roth.
DATEV Challenge Roth 2026
The DATEV Challenge Roth 2026 took place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in Roth, Germany. True to its reputation as the “Home of Triathlon,” the iconic long-distance race delivered incredible atmosphere, massive spectator crowds, and historic performances.
🏁 Key Highlights & Results
- New Men’s World Best Time: France’s Sam Laidlow won the race and smashed the world long-distance record with a jaw-dropping time of 7:21:04!
- Women’s Champion: Switzerland’s Alanis Siffert claimed a sensational victory in the women’s professional field.
- The Scale: The event hosted around 3,400 individual athletes and 650 relay teams from over 60 countries, backed by 7,500 volunteers and an estimated 300,000 cheering fans.
