Challenge Sanremo is a middle-distance triathlon that is part of the global Challenge Family series of races. It is held annually in Sanremo, Italy, and features a challenging and scenic course that attracts both professional and amateur athletes from around the world.

Race History

The first edition of the Challenge Sanremo took place in September 2022. Since its debut, it has grown to include multiple race formats and has attracted a strong field of international competitors. The 2025 event marked the fourth edition of the race.

Race Course and Distances

The event offers several race options, with the main race being the middle-distance triathlon, which consists of the following legs:

Swim (1.9 km): A single-lap course in the Mediterranean Sea, starting from the Bagni Paradiso beach. The swim takes place in a protected area of the Cetacean Sanctuary.
Bike (90 km): This is considered the most difficult part of the race. The single-lap bike course is known for its challenging, hilly nature, with an almost 1500-meter elevation gain. It incorporates the final descent of the iconic Milan-Sanremo cycling race, including the famous climbs of Cipressa and Poggio.
Run (21.1 km): The run is a flat, multi-lap course along the oceanfront, using the coastal pedestrian and cycle path between Sanremo and the neighboring town of Ospedaletti. It includes a section through the Capo Nero tunnel, offering scenic sea views.

In addition to the main middle-distance triathlon, the event also features other races, including a Sprint Distance triathlon, a Swim & Run race, and an AquaBike race.
