Quick Tips for Runners
- The “Autumn Peak”: If you’re looking for a race later this year, November is the busiest month, with Florence (Firenze) and Ravenna being massive favorites for their flat, fast courses and historic scenery.
- Spring Highlights: Rome and Milan are just around the corner! These are the two biggest “Major-style” events in Italy with the largest international crowds.
- Unique Routes: The Primiero Dolomiti is a trail marathon (mountainous), while the Venice Marathon is famous for its bridges and finishing right along the water.
Note: The Marathon della Magna Grecia often changes its specific weekend; based on historical patterns, it typically lands in late October or November.

Important: The “RunCard” & Medical Requirements
Running in Italy is unique because of strict health laws. To register for a competitive marathon (to get a timed result and rank), you will almost always need:
- A Medical Certificate: A specific form signed by a doctor (often called a “Health Form” for foreigners).
- A RunCard: If you aren’t part of an international running federation (like UK Athletics or USATF), you must buy a “RunCard” (approx. €15) which provides insurance for the race.
