THIRD FASTEST MARATHON IN THE WORLD 42.195 METERS IN FRANKFURT
It is probably the most atmospheric finish in the world. Whether a three- or six-hour runner, every marathon runner reaches the goal of his or her dreams in Frankfurt’s Festhalle at the thunderous red-carpet finale, which is brightly illuminated by spotlights. Every finisher is celebrated in the packed stands of the Festhalle.
But the final highlight after 42.195 kilometers is not the only reason for the popularity of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon. The varied course; the flat profile; the dense atmosphere on the roadside; the perfect organization – in 2022, the last time the classic race on the Main attracted more than 20,000 participants.
[su_tabs active=”3″ mobile=”scroll” anchor_in_url=”yes”][su_tab title=”2021″ disabled=”no” anchor=”” url=”” target=”blank” class=””]In view of the continuing restrictions on major events and all the uncertainties that exist due to virus mutations and a possible renewed wave of pandemics in the fall, the organizer motion events GmbH, in agreement with the City of Frankfurt, had to cancel the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon planned for October 31, 2021.
The staging of a world-class event requires secure preparation and planning, which is not possible for the organizer under the given circumstances. Race Director Jo Schindler: “In the current situation, the event is not calculable for us, because currently no one knows what the legal situation will be on the day of the event. However, we would need a clear planning basis at the latest now, less than three months before the race weekend. After all, a major event with as many facets as our Mainova Frankfurt Marathon cannot be implemented in just a few weeks. Despite a comprehensive hygiene and safety concept and a preliminary official permit, there is no guarantee that the event will not have to be canceled at short notice, which would jeopardize the continued existence of Germany’s oldest city marathon.
Our participants as well as our partners and we as organizers need planning security, which is currently not given. We have thought about it for a long time, looked for possibilities and struggled with ourselves, but unfortunately we do not see a chance to host Frankfurt’s largest street festival this year. As a sportsman and long-time organizer, my heart bleeds, but we have to make a rational decision based on the given situation and that’s why we are now pulling the ripcord.”
In addition to the main competition, the marathon, the other competitions – relay marathon, mini marathon and Struwwelpeter run, as well as the supporting program – have also been canceled.
