Often considered the holy grail of amateur cycling events, this year’s edition is a massive mountain challenge designed to mirror one of the most punishing stages of the professional Tour de France.

The route for 2026 is widely anticipated as one of the hardest in recent memory. Amateurs are tackling a grueling route from Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez.
- Distance: 170 km
- Total Elevation Gain: 5,400 meters ($5,400\text{ m}$)
- The Climbs: The route tackles four legendary, iconic Tour de France mountain passes:
- Col de la Croix de Fer
- Col du Télégraphe
- Col du Galibier (the highest point of the 2026 Tour at 2,642 meters)
- Alpe d’Huez (via the scenic and brutal Col de Sarenne side)
📋 Key Details
- The Atmosphere: The entire route is completely closed to motorized traffic, offering thousands of amateur riders the exact same road conditions, mechanical support, and roaring crowd atmosphere that the pros experience.
- Age Requirement: To ride the main French event, participants must be at least 18 years old during the calendar year.
- The Reward: Riders who survive the time cuts and make it up the 21 switchbacks to the finish receive the highly coveted Finisher’s Medal and access to the post-race Pasta Party.

The route for L’Étape du Tour de France 2026 is undoubtedly the most difficult in recent years. It will test your legs and your mental strength on the legendary slopes of the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier and Col de Sarenne.

We encourage you to closely monitor the weather forecast and take advantage of sunny periods to visit us.
The Tour de France-themed race number collection village will be set up in Alpe d’Huez, Stade Olympique Huez (Avenue des Brandes) which will also be the finish line for L’Étape du Tour de France.
The village allows you to enjoy this extra day to relax, whether alone, with friends, or with family! It’s a perfect opportunity to stroll leisurely among the stands, discover the latest offerings from our partners, and participate in Tour de France activities at your own pace.

- Thursday, July 16: 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
- Friday, July 17: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Saturday, July 18: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Sunday, July 19: 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM
