La Classique Morbihan is a professional women’s one-day cycling race held in the Brittany region of France. Since its inception, it has served as a critical fixture in the “Morbihan Weekend,” typically held on a Friday as the prelude to the Grand Prix du Morbihan (formerly GP de Plumelec-Morbihan) on Saturday.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, May 8, 2026.
1. Foundation and Growth (2015–2019)
- Established: The race was founded in 2015 to expand the professional racing opportunities for women in the Morbihan department.
- Classification: It debuted as a UCI 1.2 event but was upgraded to 1.1 in 2016 due to its success and the high quality of the starting field.
- Early Dominance: The early years were defined by two specific riders:
- Christine Majerus (Luxembourg): Won in 2016 and 2019.
- Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio (South Africa): Secured back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018.
2. The COVID Gap and Shift (2020–2022)
- 2020: The race was cancelled due to the pandemic.
- New Location: In 2021 and 2022, the race center shifted from its traditional home in Plumelec (famous for the Côte de Cadoudal) to Grand-Champ, providing a slightly different tactical challenge on technical circuits.
- Global Winners: During this period, winners came from diverse backgrounds, including Sofia Bertizzolo (Italy) and Antri Christoforou (Cyprus).
3. Recent History (2023–2025)
In recent years, the race has become a hunting ground for Italian sprinters and punchers who thrive on the “uphill drag” finishes typical of the Breton landscape.
- 2023 & 2024: Italian riders Gaia Masetti and Eleonora Gasparrini took consecutive wins. In 2023, Italian riders remarkably swept the top four positions.
- 2025: The Dutch rider Eline Jansen broke the Italian streak, winning a reduced sprint ahead of Amber Kraak.

The Course Profile
The race is famous for being technical and punchy. It usually covers around 110–115 km through the “Bocage” (hedgerows) of Brittany. The hallmark of the race is the circuit finish: riders complete several laps of a loop that features short, sharp climbs, often ending on a technical uphill finish that favors riders with a “punchy” sprint rather than pure speedsters.
