Toerversie Amstel Gold Race (or the Amstel Gold Race Sportive).
It is held every year on the Saturday immediately preceding the professional race, allowing amateur riders to tackle the same hills and finish line as the pros just 24 hours before they arrive.
2026 Edition Details
The most recent amateur event took place on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
- Participation: It is a massive event limited to 15,000 riders. Because it is so popular, entry is typically granted via a random lottery that takes place in November of the previous year.
- The Routes: There are six different distances to choose from, catering to different fitness levels:
- 65 km: ~870m of climbing.
- 100 km / 125 km / 150 km: The middle-ground options.
- 200 km: ~2,400m of climbing.
- 240 km: The full “pro” distance with over 3,000m of elevation gain.
- The Experience: All routes start and finish in Valkenburg. You get to ride over legendary climbs like the Keutenberg and the Cauberg. The finish line infrastructure for the pro race is usually already set up, giving amateurs the “pro” feeling as they cross the timing mats.
How to Enter for 2027
If you’re looking to ride it yourself next year:
- Lottery: Keep an eye on the official website in October/November 2026. You usually have to sign up for the lottery during this window.
- Corporate/Tour Teams: If you miss the lottery, some tour operators and “Corporate Team” packages offer guaranteed entries, though they are more expensive.
- The “Limburg 24/7” Permanent Route: If you can’t make it for the event day, there is a permanent “Amstel Gold Race” route marked with signs throughout the year in Southern Limburg, so you can test your legs on the climbs anytime.
