Community Races Not Postponed: Register Now!
As of late March 2026, there have been some significant updates to the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Abu Dhabi.
The event, originally scheduled to kick off the season on March 28–29, has seen major changes to its elite program. According to official statements from World Triathlon and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the elite WTCS races have been postponed.
The season is now expected to officially begin with the second round in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on April 26.
Revised Event Status
While the elite “Championship Series” level races (Elite Men/Women and Mixed Relay) are not proceeding as originally planned this weekend, the weekend still features several other competition tiers.

[!NOTE] Community and Age-Group races are still taking place, allowing amateur athletes to compete on the Hudayriyat Island course despite the changes to the professional elite schedule.
Looking Ahead: 2026 Multisport World Championships
It is important to note that Abu Dhabi will host a second, even larger event later this year: the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships. This “festival of endurance” is still set for November 13–22, 2026.
Program Highlights for November:
- Duathlon: Sprint, Standard, and Mixed Relay.
- Cross Triathlon & Duathlon: Off-road racing.
- Aquathlon: Swim-run format.
- Long Distance Triathlon: The flagship endurance event.
- Aquabike: Long-distance swim and bike.
The official event page and recent updates confirm that while the Elite WTCS races and the Para Cup have been postponed, the event weekend on Hudayriyat Island is still moving forward with its community and age-group program.
Here is the updated program for the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi weekend (March 28–29):
1. Elite & Para Races (Postponed)
The professional “top-tier” competitions originally scheduled for this weekend will not take place. This includes:
- Elite Men & Women (Sprint Distance)
- Mixed Relay Series
- World Para Cup Abu Dhabi
The WTCS season is now expected to begin in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on April 25–26, 2026.
2. Community & Age-Group Races (Proceeding)
The organizers have emphasized that the Community Races are NOT postponed. These are designed for amateur athletes, children, and fitness enthusiasts.
- Dates: Saturday, March 28 – Sunday, March 29, 2026.
- Location: Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi.
- Formats Available:
- Triathlon (Sprint & Super Sprint): Various age categories.
- Running Races: Including dedicated distances for children and adults.
- Junior Races: Specifically for younger participants to experience the championship atmosphere.
3. Venue & Conditions
- Swim: Sea swim off the coast of Hudayriyat Island (Expected water temp: 20-23°C).
- Bike/Run: Both courses are described as flat and fast, utilizing the purpose-built sports infrastructure of the island.
- Air Temperature: Forecasted between 23-29°C.
4. Registration & Athlete Info
According to the latest website update (modified 14 hours ago), Age-Group entries are still open. Athletes can still register to participate in the community events through the official portal.
