Race Across Paris – A Beautiful Early-Season Adventure
After an endless wait on Friday, my (individual) start was finally given at 8:20 pm. The route began by taking us right through the heart of Paris. My legs were ready and I was feeling good. After countless red lights, I rolled into Place de la Concorde, followed the Seine, and approached the Eiffel Tower. What a scenery.
By midnight, the temperature had dropped to 4°C. The cold dragged on, and the deep night started to take its toll. Around 4 am, the battle against sleep began. The only way to fight it was to speed up, shock the body a bit, and keep the sugar intake flowing.
Thankfully, the sun rose – an exceptional moment. What a joy.
The final 100 km went by quickly, and the welcome at the finish line was amazing. Thank you, Mich Kohnen
Quick look at the result: 1st in my age category and 7th out of 130 overall.
Next start: end of May at the Race Around Denmark.
