The Luxembourg team’s head of delegation, Jeff Kohnen, reports on the results of two Luxembourg athletes at the Gymnasiade 2024 in Bahrain.
The Gymnasiade 2024 was the biggest event in the history of the ISF (International School Sport Federation), with over 3,500 athletes and 1,800 coaches from 70 countries around the world. Competitions in 26 different disciplines were organized.
Luxembourg sent two archery athletes, Kenza Pop and Lea Tonus, who were coached by Mariya Shkolna.
In the women’s compound category, Kenza Pop took bronze, scoring 142 points out of 150 in the small final for bronze. Lea Tonus was ranked 5th, out of 6 participants.
In the International Compound Mixed Team category, Kenza Pop and her Indian partner won the gold medal. In the final, they were victorious over Lea Tonus and her partner from the United Arab Emirates. Lea Tonus was rewarded with a silver medal. A total of six teams competed in this discipline.
As the teams were made up of athletes from different nations, the medals were not taken into account for the medal rankings.
