Flanders Classics

When you think Flanders Classics, you think the traditional spring classics in Flanders. Since 2010, this Belgian company has organised the prestigious and well-known Tour of Flanders as well as Omloop Nieuwsblad, the opening race of the spring season. Flanders Classics is also involved in the organisation of four other renowned Flemish springtime races: Dwars door Vlaanderen, Gent-Wevelgem, Scheldeprijs and De Brabantse Pijl.

Besides road racing, cyclo-cross has a rich history in Flanders as well. Since 2018, Flanders Classics brings the history of both disciplines together. Since then, the Telenet Superprestige sails under the same flag as the Tour of Flanders. As from the 2020-2021 season, Flanders Classics is also responsible for the organisation of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. This way, cyclo-cross and the road season will seamlessly merge into one another.

Cyclocross is a unique, non-Olympic cycling discipline that can best be described as a blend of road cycling, mountain biking and obstacle course racing.

Most competitors actually use modified road bikes. These road bikes are then equipped with thin, ribbed tires, disc brakes, and a slightly different geometry that allows for better distance to the ground when the cyclists jump over various obstacles.

Cyclocross races are usually held on a closed circuit, with participants who completing multiple laps. Since the cyclocross season usually takes place from October to February, races are often featured by adverse weather conditions such as snow, rain, wind and mud.

The cyclists begin in mass start mode and they have to move even on rough terrain, often descending from their bikes to overcome obstacles, climb steep hills or stairs, or overcome other obstacles.

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and Flanders Classics are pleased to publish the calendar for the 2023-2024 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup.

The 2023-2024 edition of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup will comprise 14 rounds in seven countries, including one new venue: Troyes in France. Five rounds will include dedicated races for the UCI World Cup youth categories (Men Under 23, Men Junior and Women Junior).
