The WTA Tournament Berlin was a clay court tennis tournament of the WTA Tour, which was held from 1979 to 2008 as the International German Championships in Berlin. Since 1979, the women’s tournament was held in Berlin. At the beginning of the 1980s, two Germans, Bettina Bunge and Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, entered the winners’ lists. From 1986 onwards, another German, Steffi Graf, dominated the tournament. Within eleven years, she won the tournament nine times and is thus the record winner of the event.
