The Mein Freiburg Marathon, one of the most outstanding running events in south-west Germany, takes place every year in March or April and attracts both national and international participants. Since its foundation in 2004, the Freiburg Marathon has established itself in the running scene. With the start and finish on the open-air grounds of Messe Freiburg, the marathon offers an excellently organized infrastructure that benefits all runners. This includes free use of RVF public transport on the day of the marathon, a direct streetcar connection, free parking and spacious service areas with changing rooms, showers, clothes storage and plenty of seating.
The route of the marathon, which is mainly asphalted and has an elevation gain of 200 meters, leads participants on an attractive circuit in two half marathon laps through the many facets of Freiburg. Since 2022, the route has included picturesque sections through the Seepark and Dietenbachpark, crossing popular districts such as Weingarten, Haslach, St. Georgen, Wiehre, along the Dreisam river, over the Oberaubrücke bridge towards the old town, over the Wiwili bridge and through Stühlinger before returning to the exhibition grounds.
In addition to the marathon course, other disciplines are offered, including a half marathon, a 4-person marathon relay (7-14-7-14 km), a health run over 10 kilometers, a school marathon for students, teachers and clubs as well as a mini marathon for future top athletes. This variety of competitions enables runners of all ages and ability levels to take part and pursue their personal running goals. The My Freiburg Marathon thus remains a firm fixture in the running calendar of many athletes who appreciate the combination of sport, nature and culture in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities.
