Individual Women

After a curious start with 19 early starters (analysis by a German TV station) in the women’s triathlon, the first gaps appeared on the Seine. On the exit from the river, this resulted in 3 groups with a gap of up to 1 minute. Jeanne Lehair did not get the best start and was already in the third group. When changing to the bike, the athlete starting for Luxembourg had 1:31 to make up on the leading group. Already in the first laps on the bike there were numerous crashes on the still wet road. Unfortunately, Jeanne Lehair had bad luck in the third lap when a technical defect on the cassette threw her out of the race. The only athlete starting for Luxembourg, who had made up second by second up to that point, had to retire after a technical defect on her bike.
The French Cassandre Beaugrand secured gold in the end. She had a lead of six seconds on Julie Derron from Switzerland. Bronze went to Britain’s Beth Potter, the current world champion. She was 15 seconds behind.
