An epic adventure around Austria’s highest mountain
The power of the Grossglockner and the silence of the mountains. Grossglockner ULTRA-TRAIL – the trail run on the “Glocknerrunde” with 110 km and 6,500 m around Austria’s highest mountain: It is Friday, 28 July, shortly before 10 p.m., Kaprun, our eyes turn towards the main Alpine ridge. The glaciers of the Kitzsteinhorn shimmer softly in the moonlight. Our unique adventure in the heart of the Austrian Alps is about to begin. Mostly on single trails, we cross the Alps twice, over clear mountain streams and along 14 glaciers through the beautiful high mountain landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The trails run through 3 federal states, 7 valleys and 6 villages, past 14 glaciers and 300 peaks over 3,000 metres all around.
There is something for everyone: on the Osttirol Trail (OTT 80), Großglockner Trail (GGT 55), Weissee Geltscherwelt Trail (GWT 35) and Kaprun Scenic Trail, you can experience some of the adventure and marvellous mountain scenery. The trail heroes of tomorrow can explore the trails in Kals am Großglockner at the MINI GGUT.
In 2024, the GGUT will once again be a meeting of top international runners, with around 2000 runners from more than 40 nations and guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience and family trail weekend for everyone.
