GIRO D’ITALIA 2023: THE GRAND DEPARTURE IN ABRUZZO (ITALIE)

For the second time in history, after the 2001 race, the Corsa Rosa will start from the Abruzzo region. The first and second stages will take place entirely on the territory, the third, starting in Vasto, will head south while the seventh will return to Abruzzo ending at the 2135 meters of the Gran Sasso d’Italia (Campo Imperatore). The two Abruzzo riders Giulio Ciccone and Dario Cataldo (Trek – Segafredo) also spoke at the presentation.

Presented at the Renzo Piano Auditorium in L’Aquila is the Grand Departure of the Giro d’Italia 2023, which will start on May 6 from Abruzzo.

The opening will be an 18.4-kilometer individual time trial on the Costa dei Trabocchi from Fossacesia Marina (almost entirely on bike path) to Ortona. The second fraction will be suitable for sprinters and will take the peloton from Teramo to San Salvo. The next day the caravan will greet Abruzzo with a stage that will start from Vasto heading south before returning to the territory on Friday, May 12 with the seventh stage that will end on the Gran Sasso d’Italia (Campo Imperatore). For the fourth year in a row, Abruzzo will host an uphill finish. It should be noted that on the last two occasions the stage winner, Egan Bernal at Campo Felice in 2021 and Jai Hindley at Blockhaus in 2022, also won the Giro d’Italia. The presentation of the teams will be held in the days leading up to the first stage in Pescara’s Piazza Salotto.

The entire route of the 2023 Giro d’Italia will be officially unveiled Oct. 17 at Milan’s Teatro Lirico…
