FOUR DECADES OF WALLOON CYCLING HISTORY
The roots of the Ethias-Tour de Wallonie go back to 1974. The race was called Tour du Hainaut occidental (1974, 1977 to 1979, 1982 to 1989), Tour du Hainaut (1976, 1990 to 1993), Trois Jours de Péruwelz (1975), Quatre Jours du Hainaut occidental (1980 and 1981). The name “Tour des Régions wallonnes” was introduced in 1993. In 1996, the “Tour de la Région wallonne” was opened up to professional riders. In 2007, the race was renamed the “Tour de Wallonie”, before becoming the “Ethias Tour de Wallonie” in 2021, after its title partner. The Walloon race was included in the UCI Europe Tour calendar in the 2.HC category from 2005 to 2019, before joining the UCI ProSeries class in 2020.
